Principal team member completes London triathlon for bone cancer research trust raising over £2,000

Kay Hylton, Business Development Manager for Principal Investment Management, the specialist private client investment manager, raised a fantastic £1,300 for the Bone Cancer Research Trust after completing the London Triathlon on Sunday 10th August.
Kay’s employing company has been marking its 20th anniversary year by running a year-long charity fundraising initiative called “Principal’s Twenty:20 campaign”. This is a scheme whereby every £1 raised for charity by its employees is matched by Principal – up to a total of £20,000 over the year.
Kay comments: “I’ve had a fairly difficult 12 months, with reconstruction of my right arm being needed due to a bone tumour falling apart after 20 years, followed by breast surgery. I’m over the worst of it now and it’s been great to be able to give something back to the Bone Cancer Research Trust.”
With Kay’s fantastic efforts on Sunday, Principal has matched her £1,000, meaning she raised over £2,000 for the Bone Cancer Research Trust, bringing Principal within touching distance of the £20,000 target which it hopes to achieve by October. Kay’s contribution has been a great achievement after what has been a difficult year for the Principal employee.
Anne Gilbert, Principal’s Managing Director, has added “Kay is a great example for anybody. Swimming a mile, cycling 25 miles, then running 6 miles in the London Triathlon is a fantastic achievement after two major surgeries. Well done Kay!”
Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th August saw the Docklands area of London filled with thousands of athletes competing in the triathlon. “It was a great feeling to be taking part in such a high profile event,” adds Kay. “And for anyone else thinking of doing a similar thing, please do! If I can do it, then you can. Thank you to all those who have supported me over the last year, and in particular thank you to all those who sponsored me for the triathlon.”
“I would like to thank Kay and all who have sponsored her,” adds John Dealey, Deputy Chairman of the Bone Cancer Research Trust. “The money raised will be a big help. Bone Cancer is a very serious disease, and affects a lot of people. The main problem is the difficulty in diagnosing the disease. For some this can take over a year, by then the disease has really taken a hold of that person, similar to what happened to Kay 20 years ago. Donations like this can really help us into developing answers to the many problems that the disease poses. So once again a big thank you to Kay, her sponsors and, of course, Principal.”
Principal has offices in London, Sevenoaks, and Bath and manages discretionary investment portfolios for a wide range of clients.
