State Street Announces Call for 2008 ‘Most Innovative Fundraising Award’ Nominations

State Street Corporation, the world’s leading provider of services to institutional investors, will be the principal sponsor for the third consecutive year of The Gurkha Welfare Trust Oxfam’s flagship fundraising event in the UK. Trailwalker UK 2008, held on 19-20 July, is a 100-kilometre team endurance challenge across the South Downs of England coordinated by Oxfam Great Britain and the Queens Gurkha Signals to raise funds for Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust (GWT).
With up to 2,000 participants expected, this year marks the largest Trailwalker UK to date.  Trailwalker teams consist of individuals from all backgrounds, with numerous teams from the business sector taking part, including 25 teams from State Street’s offices in London, Edinburgh, Dublin, Kilkenny, Paris, the Channel Islands and Boston.  State Street will also continue its ‘Most Innovative Fundraising Award’ in 2008, created to honour the team who showcases the most ingenuity in raising money for this year’s event.
In 2007, Trailwalker UK raised more than £1 million. This year entrants have already committed to exceed this goal and with more pledges coming through, this year is expected to raise more funds than previous Trailwalker UK events.
“State Street is a firm supporter of the superb work carried out by Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust in bringing relief to underprivileged communities,” said Dan Wiener (pictured), senior managing director for State Street Global Markets. “We are extremely pleased with the continued growing response from both our staff and customers in supporting such great causes.”
